After recovering from Covid-19, Sheffield United midfielder Fleck is expected to start on the bench during next week’s match at Hampden Park - the Scots’ first in the finals of the tournament since 1996.

Aware that England and the Croats are likely to pose even tougher tests than the Three Lions and Zlatko Dalic’s side, Clarke said: “Normally, three points in recent tournaments can almost guarantee you a place in the last 16. That would be a great start.”

"This is why we qualified,” Clarke added. “We want to be in these tournaments. You want to be questioned. You want to be under pressure.”
