Sheffield United have already bagged a tidy profit through their progress to the FA Cup fifth round - and they stand to earn even more.

The FA pays out a set amount to each team when they win a match in the competition, with the amount increasing with each round played.

The Blades earned a tidy sum of £135,000 for their third round win over AFC Fylde, and they also banked another £180,000 with victory at Millwall on Saturday.

That means that Sheffield United have already amassed over £300,000 from their FA Cup run to date, and their earnings could rise sharply if they can navigate their way past the upcoming fifth round tie.

A win in the fifth round of the cup earns an extra £360,000, with a quarter final win worth double that again at £720,000.

If you make your way to Wembley, you stand to earn £1.8m for a win in the semi-final, and a whopping £3.6m if you lift the cup. The pain of a loss in the semi-finals is number by a £900,000 payday, whilst the runners-up earn £1.8m for their efforts.

Therefore, a cup run is helpful in more ways than one for Wilder’s men, yet the most enjoyable element would be the chance to win silverware with this special Blades side.

The fifth round draw takes place at 7:19pm on Monday evening live on the One Show, and will be broadcast live on BBC One.
