The 32-year-old frontman replaces club captain Billy Sharp and is the only change made by Wilder as his European-chasing Blades outfit look to close the gap on the top five with victory over Frank Lampard’s side at Bramall Lane.

United have a full complement of substitutes on the bench, but there is no sign of John Fleck in the squad as the Scottish midfielder continues his recovery from injury.

Here’s how United fans on Twitter have reacted to tonight’s team news.

@TuftyBall Big game today, for so many reasons. It's Chelsea, so I won't be disappointed if we don't get anything. But on recent results, we can win this game. Didzy and McB looks a good combo up front, too. Expect a difficult game with few chances. I fancy Didzy to score today, BTW. Something about this game tells me he'll have a few chances #SUFC #TwitterBlades

@fozzy_chris This game is won and lost in midfield, or by whether or not Chelsea show their defensive frailties #sufc #twitterblades

@R0MYSH Cannot wait to see Ben Osborn back in action making magic!

@TraceyMcaleer Brilliant. Glad Osborn playing and we need Berge for high balls. Good line up.

@pjobuchanan Come on you Blades. Let’s have another performance from you today and hopefully another three points on the board and put some more pressure on the few teams above us. Up the blades #sufc #twitterblades #PremierLeague
