George Baldock has used isolation to look at what Sheffield United have achieved... and what more they can still do

George Baldock has admitted he has used the enforced break in Premier League action to allow himself to take in the scale of what Sheffield United have done this season - and what they still may be able to achieve.

Baldock's Blades were seventh in the Premier League table when action was suspended last month, in an attempt to limit the spread of Covid-19.

United are just two points behind fifth-placed Manchester United, with a game in hand. Fifth spot is likely to secure Champions League qualification, after Manchester City were handed a two-year ban by UEFA earlier this year.

And Baldock, who signed from MK Dons when United were fresh in the Championship, admitted: "The season so far has been so good. It's taken this isolation period for me to actually step out of the bubble and realise how well we’ve done and what we can achieve if it does resume.

"Because we’re so honest, we sometimes don’t give ourselves credit and want to strive for more. So to look back is great, but we can’t wait to get back and see where it can take us."

United were odds-on at many bookies in pre-season to be instantly relegated.

"We’re in a position no-one thought we would be and we want to get back out there and continue that," Baldock added.

"We’re waiting to hear it’s safe and we understand that. But if we can get back, I'm sure the boys will be firing on all cylinders to keep proving people wrong and push on."
