Former Sheffield United striker Che Adams believes he's ready for international football after rejecting Scotland claim

Adams, a former England U20 international, turned down an offer to switch allegiances to Scotland in 2017.

But talks with his now Southampton teammate Stuart Armstrong, and Scotland boss Steve Clarke, convinced him to declare himself available for Scotland, and he was subsequently named in the squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Adams joined Birmingham City soon after Chris Wilder was named United boss in 2016, before a big-money move to Southampton. He will be joined in the Scotland squad by United's Oli McBurnie and John Fleck.

"I think it's the right time," 23-year-old Adams, who made his name at United after being signed from non-league Ilkeston Town, said.

"I know a lot of people are going to be saying it's because of the Euros but I don't think that's the case.

"I think it's come at the right time. Obviously when I was younger I didn't really know my body and how I would adapt but I think I'm the right age.

"I have spoken to Stu a couple of times and I spoke to the gaffer and that made my mind up.

"He convinced me a lot. It's just something I want to be part of. I want to take my career to the next level.

"The lads have really welcomed me in.

"I can't wait to get going to put the trust back into the manager."
