Former Sheffield United striker arrested as Scottish police probe 'match fixing' allegations

Marc McNulty, the former Sheffield United striker, was arrested by police in Scotland ‘probing allegations of match-fixing’, according to reports.

The Scottish Sun reported today that police are investigating bets on players picking up bookings, amongst other claims.

McNulty, a full Scottish international, was at Bramall Lane for three years and later played for clubs including Coventry, Portsmouth and Sunderland.

He is currently at Reading but spent time last season on loan at Hibernian, and has been released pending further inquiries.

A police spokesperson confirmed: “Police Scotland is investigating reported incidents relating to gambling in sport.

“As part of the ongoing inquiry officers searched a number of properties in the Edinburgh and Forth Valley areas on Wednesday, September 23.

“Two men, aged 21 and 28, have been arrested and released pending further inquiries.”

A number of properties in and around Edinburgh were searched as part of an ongoing investigation.

The Sun on Sunday reported that computer equipment was taken away to be analysed.
