Former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder moves closer to West Brom job, according to reports

Chris Wilder, the former Sheffield United manager, looks set to face his former club next season after reportedly moving a step closer to becoming the new West Bromwich Albion manager.

Wilder has been out of work since leaving his boyhood club in June, when his relationship with the Bramall Lane board broke down irretrievably.

Baggies chiefs made him their top target when Sam Allardyce informed them that he would be resigning from his post at the end of the season and, barring any unforeseen glitches, is expected to be unveiled in the Midlands soon.

That will set up an intriguing return to Bramall Lane next season, following both sides’ relegation to the Championship. United, of course, unveiled the former Fulham and Watford manager Slavisa Jokanović as their new manager earlier today.

West Brom considered an approach for Wilder shortly after he led United to the Premier League, but appointed Slaven Bilic instead.
