In the meantime, for a bit of fun, we fired up the latest edition of Football Manager, and simulated the game into the future. We had a look at the starting XI and the manager it predicts will be on show for the Blades on the opening day of the 2020/21 season.
1. New season, same division
Unsurprisingly, FM didn't predict them to dramatically drop into the Championship, and they managed a seventh placed finish. They open the new campaign away to newly-promoted Leeds United. (Photo credit: Ross Kinnaird/Getty Images) Photo: Ross Kinnaird
2. GK: Vaclav Hladky
Dean Henderson, very disappointingly, opts to sit on Man Utd's bench rather than stay at Bramall Lane. A free transfer from St Mirren, the Czech stopper - worth £7m - is quite the left-field swoop. (Photo by Mark Runnacles/Getty Images) Photo: Mark Runnacles
3. RWB: George Baldock
It's the same formation for United, and Baldock reprises his role as the Blades' first-choice right wing-back. (Photo by Bryn Lennon/Getty Images) Photo: Bryn Lennon
4. CB: Connor Goldson
Despite a wonderful showing in the 2019/20 campaign, Chris Basham is relegated to the bench, and replaced by the ex-Rangers man, who joined for £10m. (Photo by Ian MacNicol/Getty Images) Photo: Ian MacNicol
