On Monday, the Blues announced that Pep Clotet would be leaving the club at the end of the season, as he looks to pursue a new managerial challenge.

Ex-Brighton boss Chris Hughton emerged as the bookies' initial favourite, while the likes of Michael Laudrup and Lee Carsley are also among the front-runners.

After a flurry of bets over the past 24 hours, ex-Sheffield United boss Neil Warnock surged his way into poll position as Sky Bet's new 2/1 favourite, as he looks for his next managerial role after leaving Cardiff City last November.

The ex-Leeds United boss has been in charge of 13 clubs during his 31-year managerial career, winning promotion to the Premier League with Sheffield United, Queens Park Rangers and Cardiff City respectively.

The 71-year-old recently revealed he came close to becoming Sheffield Wednesday manager back in 2013, telling Sky Sports: "Growing up in our family, it wasn’t like there is now where it’s one or the other (Wednesday or United). But I spoke to him (Owls owner Milan Mandaric), he wanted me to take the job and I said 'Okay, but give it 48 hours and ask a few questions around the place, if you still want me to take it, I’ll take it'.

"When he found it, the press got hold of it, Wednesday fans started on the internet; I think it frightened Milan to death!”
