'Dean Henderson will be Man Utd's number one' - Sheffield United keeper tipped for Old Trafford greatness

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reiterated his belief that Dean Henderson’s long-term future lies at Old Trafford.

While it is expected that the Sheffield United keeper, on loan from Solskjaer’s side, will remain at Bramall Lane to complete this season, beyond that it’s currently unclear where Henderson will be playing his football.

The 23-year-old has made no secret of his desire to be playing regularly so as to aid his chances of earning an England cap and becoming Gareth Southgate’s first pick.

David De Gea’s presence in goal at Manchester United would appear to be a stumbling block to that, as things stand, and there may be another year out on loan on the horizon for Henderson, who has thrived in making the step up into the Premier League after a season on loan with the Blades in the Championship.

“Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically,” said Solskjaer. “We’re looking at that in terms of where he’s going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.

“This season has proved a great experience for him, he’s done himself some favours with his performances and proved he will be England’s No.1 and Man United’s No.1 at some point.”

The rise in Sheffield United's status as a genuine threat to their Manchester rivals in terms of competing for European places means that Old Trafford bosses will have to think carefully about Henderson’s next step.
