SHEFFIELD United are in the process of finalising their plans for the January transfer window, manager Danny Wilson has confirmed.

Rotherham’s Lewis Grabban and fellow attacker Shaun Miller of Crewe are among those players monitored by United in recent weeks as Bramall Lane braces itself for a pivotal period in the League One season.

Talks aimed at establishing the future of on-loan defender Marcus Williams are also expected to open with Reading shortly.

But Wilson, whose side host Torquay in the FA Cup this weekend, has warned rival clubs could attempt to poach talent already at his disposal following United’s encouraging start to the new campaign.

Admitting James Beattie’s return to South Yorkshire last week had “superseded” other potential deals, Wilson said: “We were looking at other people (during the emergency loan window) but then we did what we did with James. Of course you never stop looking though. That’s something on-going at all times.”

Wilson, speaking ahead of what is certain to be a poignant afternoon when United host Torquay in the FA Cup on Saturday, added: “We know the same goes for everyone else across the game as well.”

United will pay tribute to former player, coach and manager Gary Speed before the second-round tie following his death, aged 42, last weekend.
