Chris Wilder, the Sheffield United manager, believes the ongoing coronavirus pandemic will make the general public reassess their view on the REAL heroes of society.

Wilder and his Blades players are working away at home after the Premier League was suspended. United's Shirecliffe training base was also closed in a bid to halt the spread of Covid-19, with much global debate now raging as to how the football season can recommence.

But, on a wider scale, Blades boss Wilder believes that the pandemic will change people's perceptions.

"Everyone will somehow be connected to a key worker still working away," Wilder said.

"Stuff that is rightly getting publicised, and stuff that is going under the radar.

"We have people in care homes and hospitals doing an amazing job. Hopefully that's reflected on - how key those people and jobs are to everyone, and the brilliant work that is going on in our great city.

"We have heroes on a football pitch on a Saturday and a Tuesday. But with the situation we're going through, it really puts it into perspective who are the real heroes."

Wilder's players recently joined forces with their Premier League colleagues to launch Players Together, an initiative to fund charities connected to the NHS.

"Players from United and Wednesday do a lot of charity work that goes unnoticed in this city, and they don't want patting on the back,” Wilder added. “They do it because they want to do it, and want to put a stamp on the city."
