Inspired by their South Yorkshire neighbours Rotherham United, where Stephen Gilpin and Ross Burbeary set themselves the target of running 10km every day back in 2018, a number of clubs embraced the challenge – including the Blades’ team, who set themselves a £10,000 fundraising goal for Prostate Cancer UK.

That target has now been exceeded, but donations are still welcome for a charity that has personally affected a number of those involved, including Blades analyst Josh Kirk who lost his grandfather to prostate cancer.

“It’s been tough,” Nathan Winder, United’s lead first-team strength and conditioning coach, admitted.

"At the end of the first week, and then in the last few days, the legs were getting heavy.

"It’s been the same for us all, and it’s been a mental challenge too. To do it at the end of the day after work, or before work early in the morning.

"But there’s been a real togetherness and pulling each other along throughout the team.”
