Chris Wilder's warning to Sheffield United players after latest defeat at Southampton

United's win for a first win of the campaign went on as they were comprehensively beaten by Southampton at St Mary's, losing 3-0 to remain bottom of the top-flight table with just a single point to their name.

And Wilder make no attempt to deny that his players' confidence has been hit.

"With the numbers we've got and the games we have played, of course it is going to," he said.

"That's a fact and a natural situation to be in.

"Players doubt themselves individually and as a collective. That's only natural but we have to snap out of it sooner rather than later."

Wilder, though, had no complaints about the result. Former Blade Che Adams opened the scoring after some poor defending, before Stuart Armstrong's deflected shot and Nathan Redmond's finish sealing a 3-0 win for the impressive home side.

"We were beaten by the better side, a team full of confidence, with some good players and playing at the top of their game," Wilder added.

"Obviously we're not.

"They're a good side, a really good side. I'm not deflecting anything from us. We're in a bad run.

"Individually players aren't playing anywhere near where they can play."

United return to action on Thursday evening when they face Manchester United at Bramall Lane.
