Photos of Mousset's orange car were posted on social media after colliding with a Land Rover Discovery and another parked vehicle, causing extensive damage to the £300,000 supercar.

No injuries were reported and two men, in their 20s, were arrested on suspicion of drink driving and released under investigation as police enquiries into the crash continue.

Wilder confirmed that the car involved was Mousset's, and that the French striker has trained with the Blades this week.

And Wilder, speaking today at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup tie at Bristol Rovers, said: "It's in the hands of Lys' solicitor and the club's solicitor regarding the incident.

"We've talked to Lys about his discipline and commitments to the club and his responsibilities as a professional footballer.

"It's been left with the legals and if there's any action taken by the police, it'll be dealt with.

"It's disappointing when you see the pictures and you hear the story, but it'll be dealt with internally and fairly. I think that's the best way of putting it."

A resident who witnessed the aftermath of the collision said lives could have been lost.

The 57-year-old said: “The Lamborghini had a side ripped off, there was debris all over the road, A Land Rover Discovery had been spun round 90 degrees and into a solid stone gatepost, there was oil and fuel spilling down there road... it was quite an unpleasant scene.

“If anybody had been walking past at the time, they would have been killed, no question. The Discovery in particular must have been hit with some impact to be spun round like it was.”

Mousset signed for United in a deal worth up to £10m last summer, from AFC Bournemouth.

In a statement released just after the collision, a Blades spokesperson said: “Officials at Sheffield United are aware of images circulating on social media and are currently making internal enquiries.”
