The Blades have moved closer to securing Wilder's top target in the summer transfer window, with United hopeful of tying up the move before Sunday's trip to Arsenal.

Wilder believes the England U21 international possesses the attributes to improve his forward line, which has so far failed to find the net in United's three Premier League games so far.

And speaking this morning at his press conference ahead of the trip to the Emirates Stadium, Wilder said: "I can't confirm that it's all been done but we have been in talks for a while.

"Discussions are still ongoing so there's nothing to announce at the minute. We are down the line, he's been on our radar and when that happens I can confirm it.

"As we are at this moment in time nothing is over the line."

Wilder sought reinforcements to his forward line even before Lys Mousset picked up a toe injury in pre-season.

"We're always trying to bring better players into the group," he added.

"I looked at last season and we have to improve in that area, we have to be more clinical and bring in more competition at the top of the pitch. We can't just go with two right the way through. We've had to work hard to identify players but the players don't need a 'boost'.

"They're as disappointed as me and I'm not surprised about that. They have to overcome that. They don't need a lift but bringing a better player into the group will improve us."
