Chris Wilder makes an admission about Sheffield United's quest to sign Manchester United's Dean Henderson
Chris Wilder has reiterated Sheffield United's desire to bring Dean Henderson back to Bramall Lane for another loan spell next season.
But the Blades boss has admitted once again that the decision is out of his hands, with Manchester United still to make up their minds on Henderson's long-term future before the player is given a choice to make.
Henderson has enjoyed two successful seasons on loan at Bramall Lane, and has established himself as one of the Premier League's best goalkeepers this campaign as Wilder's men mount an unlikely push for Europe.
But the youngster still retains serious ambitions of being No.1 at both Old Trafford and the England national team. Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Wilder's counterpart in Manchester, is reportedly giving serious thought to the prospect of keeping Henderson next season, but the goalkeeper is thought to want to play first-team football.
Solskjær has also repeatedly praised David De Gea, his current No.1, in recent weeks. The Spaniard is on eye-watering money at Old Trafford, which would both make him an expensive back-up to Henderson and also potentially put off any suitors wanting to sign him.
"Dean and Manchester United know our thoughts on the situation," Wilder said today.
"We've already started talking to the player and Manchester United, while respecting it's their decision and the boy's decision.
"We would love to extend it for another season, and when we get the news on that we'll let you know."
United signed goalkeeper Wes Foderingham yesterday, following the expiry of his Rangers contract.
