Sources in west London last night confirmed Parker is set to replace Jonathan Woodgate at AFC Bournemouth, and is now set to be officially unveiled at the Vitality Stadium after leaving Craven Cottage.

Like United, who appointed Slavisa Jokanovic as Wilder’s successor four weeks ago, Fulham were relegated from the Premier League last season with Parker said to be frustrated by their reaction to his call for a major overhaul of their first team squad.

And one insider with knowledge of the capital’s footballing scene has suggested Fulham will include Wilder’s name on a shortlist of candidates set to replace the former England and Chelsea midfielder.

Jokanovic guided Fulham to promotion from the Championship in 2018, three years after achieving the same feat with Watford.

Wilder, who led United from the third to the first tier of the English game after being appointed in 2016, had looked set to replace Sam Allardyce at West Bromwich Albion until talks with officials at The Hawthorns slowed. He remains of interest to some at West Brom, but could be tempted to wait and see if Parker’s move prompts Fulham to show their hand before deciding the next phase of his career.

After leaving United in March, Wilder is now keen to make a return to the sport and could find himself lining up against United next term.
