The striker came off just after half time at Southampton on Sunday after injuring a shoulder as he fell from an earlier tackle. The Scottish international scored United's equaliser in the corresponding game last season in a 3-3 draw at Bramall Lane.

"He wasn't in a good place after the incident and at half time, full credit to him for wanting to give it a go but I wouldn't expect anything different," Wilder said.

"We'll give him as much time as possible and we're hoping he'll train early tomorrow before the game and we'll take it from there. It's touch and go but we'll give him as much time as possible.

"He brings qualities from a defensive point of view and a set plays point of view. It's been difficult for the forwards and the whole team, we haven't taken as many big moments as we should. The players have all been guilty of that and the focus always goes on the forwards, but it's not always the case.

"If Oli's available that'll be great for us but if not we'll get on with it as we've had to with the other misses that have hurt us this season."

McBurnie scored his first goal of the season earlier this month against Leicester City but was replaced just after the break by David McGoldrick as the Blades lost 3-0 to Southampton, leaving them still bottom of the table without a win from their 12 games so far.
