And to mark the occasion, United’s media team have produced a compilation of 10 of the best goals from Sharp in a United shirt.

They include a Bramall Lane stunner against his old club Leeds, a cracker in League One against Shrewsbury and a vital late header at Peterborough which helped United on the path to 100 points in League One.

“Although I do think I’ve got a lot left in me, when I do eventually retire I’ll look back on an unbelievable United career, because of the boys and staff,” Sharp said in the summer once promotion had been sealed.

“We've achieved something incredible. I’d have never thought getting two promotions in three years was possible in my wildest dreams. One would have been enough, especially with this club.

“But to get two, and get back to the Premier League, is unbelievable. My teammates and the manager are the ones who've helped me and the club be successful over the last three years. I can't thank them enough.”
