It’s brought hope to Blades, despite their, perilous position at the bottom of the table and the joy among fans seeped through social media.

Buzzing Blade @azzle94 posted on twitter after the match: “Absolutely superb Blades. That is the Sheffield United I know. Everyone on it, movement, options, balls in the box, backs to the wall when needed. Newcastle were dreadful and by far the worst team we have played against but you can only beat what’s in front of you.”

And @wardychris72 added: “I feel as proud tonight as at any time during Chris Wilder’s unforgettable reign!”

@The_Bladesman said: “Get in there you Blades! Incredible effort by every single player on that pitch. First half great back to our best football, 2nd half pure desire to get that goal and win that game! Incredibly happy for CWAK and all those players!”

While @ViewFromJohnSt took a quick look at the fixture list to keep him a little grounded at least: “We’re on the march with Wilder’s army...Tottenham, Man Utd and Man City next – oops! Thought Blades were terrific tonight but it was so obvious where our real problem lies. Still huge ask but pay big wages for a couple of top loan deals and who knows.”

@plazmega posted: “It's been a while but I can't wipe the smile of my face, this feels good and long over due, goodnight everyone”

And @KatherineRoot said on twitter: “Seriously, this club is going to be the death of me!!! I'm actually shaking!! And nearly had a heart attack! What an amazing performance imo...and the blades Iove! Very proud of the boys tonight!!”

Also on twitter @unitedite felt the nerves at the end: “Brilliant. Apart from nerves near the end that was an excellent all round performance against a negative side with little ambition. Didzy central to so much. Norwood all round game back to what we know. Brewster great cameo. Loved it. Apart from mins 84-96”

And finally, @TomMelody88 posted: “We might have 5 points and still be 9 off safety but absolutely BUZZING to get a win. Much more like the United of old. Bogle absolutely class (despite the back pass).”
