The overwhelmingly-positive reaction to his announcement last week guaranteed that. But it wasn’t just Blades fans commenting, with a number of Fulham fans also wishing their former manager the best and giving Blades supporters a taste of what they can expect with the Serbian in charge.

Here’s a selection of tweets from Fulham supporters greeting Jokanovic’s appointment at their Championship rivals for next season...

Great manager. Gutted he wasn't given a chance to manage us in the Premier League. Tactically very good, not afraid to change it after 20 minutes if it's not working. Great playing style, great man-management. Still miss him.

@Tendou1879: As a Fulham fan I'm absolutely gutted but delighted to see him back. Just hoped it was for us. Please be patient, his style takes time to gel with the team but it's worth it. Please love him as much as we loved him. All the best, except for when you play us x.

@HinnHeartsBeer: Treat him well, #twitterblades. Left #FFC 3 years now and as far as I'm concerned, he's still the boss. Hope away days are a thing next season, been too long since a trip down the Lane.

@AlexLowy: #FFC fan here. Slaviša is a serious coach. You have a great chance of bouncing straight back with this guy. Might take time for his style to set in, but he’ll set up an attacking, possession-based side that sees goals at both ends. You’re in for a ride. Good luck the Blades!

@mark_wareham: I’m a Fulham fan so congrats to Sheffield Utd on appointing a fantastic manager! We went on an over 20 game unbeaten run with Joka in charge. Enjoy!!!

@TKelly_15: What an appointment that is for them. To see him back at the Cottage managing another team next year is gonna hurt

@ralphieffc: This pains me to read this so much but guys, in @Jokanovic you'll have the greatest manager that you will experience.. Enjoy the ride, we miss him at FFC.

@RhysBenjamin: As a Fulham fan be prepared for expansive European-style football, although the defending can be extremely haphazard at times...!

@paulspc93: Enjoy him. He is superb. I’d put money on you finishing higher than us. Especially if you manage to prise Tom Cairney from us. Slav loves him and the feeling is mutual.

@unt01d: Welcome back to the best league in the world, bossman

@grant1995: Not looking forward to playing Sheffield United now
