David McGoldrick, fresh from being named players’ player of the year ahead of kick-off, scored his 10th goal of the season with a memorable finish from outside the box to delight the fans returning to Bramall Lane after over a year away.

But Dyche said: “It was a poor goal. We huffed and puffed a little bit, they’ve had a tough season and played better today. We have to be careful with petering out but there’s a lot of good work done. The edge has just come off lately.

“We’re missing two key players again today and that’s been the story of the season for us. That doesn’t help. We’ve asked a lot of these players and we’ve just petered out at the end.

“We didn’t find the key moments.”
