The 28-year-old is a free agent after leaving Altay SK, a second tier side in Turkey, and appears destined to return to England with Paul Tisdale keen on luring him to the south-west.

However, Rovers are thought to face competition from Championship clubs Derby County and Middlesbrough in the race for Gnanduillet’s services.

Sheffield Wednesday have also previously been linked with the Frenchman, who moved to Izmir after rejecting a new contract with Blackpool.

Paul Tisdale, the Rovers manager, accepts his club can not match the wages Gnanduillet is being offered elsewhere, but hopes the prospect of regular first team football will prove difficult to resist.

Rotherham United have also been touted as a potential destination for the Gnanduillet, who played only 15 times following his switch to Izmir.
