Norwood looked to have scored his second Premier League goal when Villa goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland caught his deep free-kick, but collided with a defender and took the ball over his own goalline.

But HawkEye's goalline technology failed to alert referee Michael Oliver that the goal should be given, and the firm later apologised to United in a statement.

The Blades couldn't break down relegation-threatened Villa again, although the point did move them up to sixth in the table ahead of Sunday's trip to Newcastle United.

And Norwood said afterwards: "There’s not much I can probably say without getting into trouble. All the money in the game, you’d think that wouldn’t happen. You wouldn’t think technology would be robbing us of three points.

“To be honest, I didn’t think we were great and we didn’t produce our usual quality. But if we’d have gone in front at that point, I think it might have been different.”

“It’s disappointing but we have to get on with it. It wasn’t the best of games to watch, probably, and maybe they created the better chances in the first half. I’m not saying we deserved to win overall, performance-wise, and maybe the draw was fair.

“But the fact is, the ball went in and now we just have to get on with it. There’s another game coming up quickly; and they’re all tough.”
