Sheffield United will ask Kean Bryan to confirm if he is minded to extend his stay at Bramall Lane before Slavisa Jokanovic’s arrival next week, as they attempt to apply the finishing touches to their summer recruitment programme.

The centre-half is scheduled to become a free agent in six days time, although United informed his agent they planned to offer him a new deal ahead of the new Championship season, which begins in August.

Although the terms of that proposed contract have now been forwarded to Bryan, the former Manchester City defender is yet to reveal whether or not he will accept or explore his options elsewhere.

If Bryan tells them the latter, then United will redraw the wanted list that Jokanovic approved after accepting their invitation to take charge. With Phil Jagielka being released following their relegation from the Premier League, the Serb has already made the heart of the rearguard he is set to inherit from his predecessor Chris Wilder a priority - alongside at least one new midfielder.

Jokanovic is scheduled to hold face to face talks with Bryan, Sander Berge and Regan Slater soon after his arrival in England on Thursday. But with Berge expected to depart and Slater likely to gauge his chances under the former Yugoslavia international before deciding his next move, Bryan is set to be summoned to Jokanovic’s office first.

Aged 24, Bryan’s opportunities at Bramall Lane proved limited until he made his top-flight debut at West Bromwich Albion in November. Two months later he was on target during United’s win over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
