SHEFFIELD United will resist the temptation to rush Kevin McDonald back into action, despite manager Danny Wilson’s admission that the midfielder’s qualities are sorely missed in the battle for promotion from League One.

Instead, having been identified as a key figure in Wilson’s campaign to bring Championship football back to Bramall Lane, the former Scotland under-21 international is set to be given as much time as he requires to recover from the hamstring complaint which forced him to miss Sunday’s Steel City derby defeat.

Given McDonald’s importance to United – and the fact there is no like for like replacement in Wilson’s squad – coaching staff are understandably reticent to cut corners with his rehabilitation ahead of tomorrow’s League One fixture with Scunthorpe.
