United had gone 2-0 up in the first half through goals from Jayden Bogle and Billy Sharp (pen), while North End had a man sent off when Andrew Hughes saw red for fouling Rhian Brewster in the box.
But United capitulated in the second and North End secured a deserved point, through Alan Browne and Emil Riis’ late leveller.

Looked to have shaken off the scars of his performance at Derby on Saturday, but tasted yet more disappointment at the end as United chucked away what could have been two crucial points Photo: Simon Bellis
Returned to the United side as one of three changes from the weekend defeat to Derby, and almost had an assist to show for it with a lovely pass through to Brewster which the striker couldn't convert. Later made way for Norrington-Davies after going down and receiving some treatment Photo: Simon Bellis
Had an early sight of goal after a short corner routine and judging by his reaction, it may have gone in but for the deflection which sent it wide. Absolutely bossed the midfield battle against Johnson in the first half but couldn't assert the same level of control in the second. Still one of United's better performers Photo: Simon Bellis
Another coming in from the start against North End, who looked good in the first half and not so good in the second. Another weak tackle led to another break, as it did on Saturday. Booked in the second half for a foul on Browne Photo: Simon Bellis
