Sheffield United manager Nigel Adkins said he wanted a response from the players in this South Yorkshire derby with Barnsley, following the defeat to Shrewsbury in midweek - and he believes he got it in the 1-1 draw at Oakwell.

The Blades were heading towards their first League One win since October 20, with Chris Basham's first half goal putting United into the lead.

However, Conor Hourihane's superb strike with just a couple of minutes to go earned a point for Barnsley.

Hourihane had earlier had a chance to equalise from a penalty but saw his spot kick saved by George Long.

Adkins said afterwards: "I was looking for us to respond; I think we've done that.

"You've seen a derby game there with plenty of passion shown by the Sheffield United players.

"We've scored a good goal and could have scored several...the goalscorer for Barnsley (Adam Davies) was outstanding and George Long has made a very good penalty save for ourselves.

"We had enough chances to win the game and at the very end it's a very good striker by the Barnsley player, to be fair."
