Sheffield United pre-Stoke press conference

Slavisa Jokanovic has finished

his section of the press conference - here’s some highlights of what he said...

Egan on what he expects from Stoke test

It’ll be tough, they’re a really good side. They’ve shown that this season. Hopefully we can prepare right and give everything to get three points.

Statement of intent to beat Stoke?

It’s the next game, whether it’s against Stoke or anyone else. The main thing is the three points and that’s what we’re fighting for. I don’t really look at the table this early, the last time we went up I didn’t start until Jan/Feb/March time. There’s no point looking too soon. The whole focus is on the next game.

Egan on Robin Olsen

He’s a really experienced goalkeeper, No.1 for his country and was fantastic in the last break. We’re lucky to have him.

Three or four at the back?

We’re on the pitch to try and keep clean sheets and our aim is to try and keep more. That’s the plan going forward. We’ve shown anyone can play whatever formation is required. We’ve got good players and a quality manager so there’s no reason we can’t look to win every game we’re involved in.

How would you rate the season so far?

We’re not where we wanted to be, but it’s always going to be hard. We had different issues to face, we have a long season ahead of us. We know what our end goal is and we’re getting better as a team, I feel. We’re improving all the time and can hopefully keep picking up results. You can’t look too far ahead, we just want to try and win the next game. It’s all you can do. There’s a lot of football to be played.

Keen to put pre-break defeats behind you?

We didn’t get the results we wanted so we’re looking to put that right on Saturday and get back on a winning run. We haven’t had chance as a team to go through them because everyone went their separate ways over the break but we have to look forward. It’ll be a tough game.

Enda and Conor playing as well – can it help club and country?

Definitely, when you go away and get a couple of performances under your belt it gives you confidence, you come back with a spring in your step. We’re trying to bring that form into United.

Hugely proud, it’s special to play for your country and to be the captain is something I’ll cherish forever.

Egan on the international break

It was brilliant, two positive performances and two really good results. Its great for the camp and for confidence, so it was a great break for us. We’ve been getting better and better all year and we didn’t get the results we felt we deserved last time, so to get two good results from two good performances is great. Hopefully we can bring that into the next break.
