With their new manager Slavisa Jokanovic keen to work with the former under-21 international, United are now coming under pressure to explore ways of rewarding Ramsdale’s loyalty and progress.

Together with every other member of the group Jokanovic has inherited from his predecessor Chris Wilder, Ramsdale’s wages are set to be reduced next term when United return to the English Football League.

Although financial considerations mean he will still be subject to that cut, Ramsdale’s performance related bonuses could be reviewed as part of a gesture also designed to send a message to the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are reportedly monitoring his situation.

Ramsdale started his career with United, progressing through their Steelphalt Academy youth system, before being sold to AFC Bournemouth in 2017.

Despite making a chequered start to the previous campaign, he grew in stature as the fixture schedule unfolded and was named United’s player of the season before last mointh’s home game against Burnley.

Ramsdale is expected to be selected among the substitutes for England’s latest group match, against Scotland, at Wembley on Friday. United midfielder John Fleck could appear for the visitors.
