Billy Sharp's classy get well soon message to Sheffield United fan battling coronavirus

Billy Sharp, the Sheffield United captain, has sent a classy get well soon video message to a Blades fan who was admitted to the Northern General Hospital last week with coronavirus.

Carol Donaldson, a former nurse from Waterthorpe, runs a popular Blades Facebook group with over 8,000 members and last week, thanked people for their well-wishes via The Star.

And after hearing of Carol's battle with Covid-19, Blades skipper Sharp got in touch with a video message wishing her a speedy recovery.

"Hi Carol, Billy Sharp here," the striker said.

"I'm really sorry to hear you're not well in hospital with Covid-19, something that's really causing huge amounts of distress to the nation at the minute.

"I've had a few people I know, friends and family, who’ve had it and come through it, so I hope it's the same for you.

"I wish you all best with your recovery, as fast and safe as possible. Me and everyone at Sheffield United want to wish you a speedy recovery, and hope you get well soon. Take care."

Carol told how she first began feeling ill around two weeks ago, when she woke up feeling ‘so tired’ despite usually having bundles of energy.

Her condition declined and by Thursday night last week she was struggling to breathe and says it felt like someone was sitting on her chest.

“I’m overwhelmed by the messages I’ve had from fellow Blades fans. They’ve really helped me through. Without them I was sinking,” she said.
