The legendary United striker has struggled for game time since United were promoted to the Premier League, but is determined to stay and force his way into Wilder's first-team plans.

A host of clubs – reportedly including Celtic, his old club Leeds and Midlands rivals Forest and Derby County – admire the striker, and Wilder admits enquiries about Sharp’s future have been made.

But, speaking today ahead of United's trip to Arsenal on Saturday, Wilder revealed another club had made a recent enquiry about Sharp's availability.

Asked if Sharp had given any indication about where he felt his future would lie, Wilder admitted: “If he had, then something would have happened.

“The message from him is that he wants to stay.

“But you can never say never. If he gets offered a three-year-deal somewhere and decides he has to take it, we’ll facilitate that.

“But no-one has done that just yet. There’s always a way to get to Bill through the back door, that’s the way football works, but he’s been up front with me and I’ve been up front with him.”
