A Billy Sharp header in the first half and a remarkable triple save by on-loan goalkeeper Dean Henderson helped Chris Wilder’s side climb to sixth place in the Premier League. Here’s what the national media had to say about United’s latest victory on their impressive return to the top flight after an absence of 12 years.
1. Mail on Sunday
The Mail ran with the headline 'Blades make it 10 shutouts for the season as Billy Sharp's header moves them to within two points of the Champions League spots!', while reporter Craig Hope hailed Dean Henderson's role in the win over Norwich City. He wrote: "On this form, parent club Manchester United will take a little more persuading before they allow their goalkeeper to leave Old Trafford for another year, especially if he emerges as England’s custodian in the coming months." 2. The Independent
The Independent's headline simply read 'Billy Sharp boosts Sheffield United’s top four hopes' with its short match summary again pointing to Dean Henderson's heroics in goal. "Chris Wilder's team leaned on their goalkeeper Dean Henderson, whose impressive displays have seen him strongly linked with the No 1 jersey for England, as well as replacing David De Gea at his parent club Manchester United next season," its report read. 3. The Sunday Times
The Sunday Times ran with the headline 'Billy Sharp strikes to keep Sheffield United flying high'. Its man at the game Martin Hardy highlighted the goalscoring exploits of Billy Sharp and the impressive performance of Dean Henderson between the sticks, but also paid tribute to the work of their manager Chris Wilder, writing: "Football can move fast but Wilder and his men are revered for turning the club around. In the transfer market Wilder is clever and in the dressing room he demands unity — in terms of tactics and physicality, United have not been found wanting." Photo: Nigel Roddis
4. The Observer
"Billy Sharp sinks Norwich to boost Sheffield United’s European hopes," reads the headline in today's Observer. Louise Taylor, the Observer's reporter at Bramall Lane, wrote: "Norwich asked Chris Wilder’s team some searchingly intelligent questions but thanks to Billy Sharp’s winning goal and stellar performances from, among others, John Lundstram and Dean Henderson, these Blades simply shrugged off Daniel Farke’s smart, if ultimately forlorn, tactical button pressing."
