Both sides are waiting for their first league win of the season, and currently occupy the bottom two spots in the Premier League table.

The Blades suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Ham in their last outing, while Slaven Bilic’s Baggies were beaten by the same scoreline in controversial fashion against Manchester United last Saturday.

Albion had a penalty award overturned by VAR before their hosts were allowed to retake a missed spot kick after Sam Johnstone was adjudged to have moved off his line too early.

Between them, the two sides have managed just 10 top flight goals this term, and Lawrenson believes that a lack of goals could come back to haunt them again this weekend.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said: “There are various reasons why these two sides are the bottom two, and one of them is a lack of goals.

West Brom have managed only six in nine league games, and Sheffield United have fared even worse with just four. That's the joint-lowest total with Burnley, who have played a game less.

“The Baggies and the Blades are also the only sides yet to win in the top flight this season, and both of them have no doubt earmarked this game as a big chance to put that right.

“Things don't always work out like that, though, which is why I am going for another draw.”

Lawrenson predicts a 1-1 draw.
