David McGoldrick has backed Oli McBurnie, his fellow Sheffield United striker, to get up and running for the Blades this season soon after insisting that the Scottish international belongs at Premier League level.

McBurnie is yet to hit the back of the net for the Blades since the season resumed, despite having more shots and big chances in the last two Premier League game weeks than any other player.

But, despite mounting criticism from a section of Blades followers on social media, McGoldrick threw his support behind his teammate this morning as the Blades prepare for Sunday's clash with Leicester City.

"I spoke to Oli in the dressing room after the game at West Brom," McGoldrick revealed.

"I don't follow social media but a few boys said there's calls for him to be dropped.

"But he brings so much to the side and I've told him a rule I got told when I was younger from Harry Redknapp - panic when you're not getting the chances, because that shows you don't belong at the level you're playing at.

"He belongs at this level and he will score because he's a great striker.

"He offers so much defending and attacking, he puts himself about and links play, people don't realise how good he is with the ball at his feet and he's a valuable member of the team. He's scored goals in his career and in training, so no doubt they'll come."

Leicester tried to sign McGoldrick when he was an Ipswich player back in 2014.
