Arsenal legend says Sheffield United's Chris Wilder has done a better job this season than Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp would appear to be set to clean up at the end of the season when the awards are being handed out.

But according to a four-time Premier League winner, the Liverpool boss has some very serious competition.

Klopp’s Reds are riding high at the top of the table and barring one of the the biggest capitulations in English football history should end their 30-year wait for a league title.

Unbeaten throughout the campaign and having dropped just two points while remaining in the FA Cup and the Champions League, it’s obvious that the German will be at the top of most people’s nominations sheets.

However, it’s not cut and dried according to ex-Gunner and now TV pundit Lee Dixon.

The former England full-back has been impressed by Chris Wilder’s achievements at Sheffield United in this his first experience of the Premier League and Dixon says the Blades boss deserves to be held in similar regard as Klopp.

United, with resources dwarfed by most in the top flight, are currently fifth in the table and are now serious contenders for a place in the Champions League – this coming just a few years after the boyhood Blade took over at Bramall Lane with his side floundering in League One.

Wilder’s promotion from the Championship last season helped him win the LMA Manager of the Year Award and Dixon went so far as to not just say the 52-year-old is in the hunt to take this year’s top Premier League boss’ gong, he should probably win it.

Dixon said on Premier League TV: “Arguably he has done a better job than what Jurgen Klopp is doing.

"That place just seems to breathe hard work, that's a given, you've got to give that.

“It's not something you turn around and get praised for because that's your job: work hard.

"The way that they are playing, the tactics, he has surprised a lot of opposition, the way they are playing. So arguably, I think he should be up there at the top of that list."
