Sheffield United sealed an FA Cup fifth-round date with Bristol City after overcoming spirited League One side Plymouth Argyle at Bramall Lane.

United went 2-0 ahead early in the second half, but Argyle pulled one back through Panutche Camara to make the final few minutes interesting.

Here’s how we rated United’s players.

Aaron Ramsdale 6

Was a spectator for much of the game as United dominated, but will have had his heart in his mouth late in the first half when he looked to claim a routine centre and dropped it. Didn't really cover himself in glory for Plymouth's opening goal, which seemed to squirm through him rather than beat him

Jayden Bogle 7

Kept his place at right wing-back after some impressive displays of late despite George Baldock returning to fitness. Caught the eye again here, drifting infield and not wasting a single opportunity to get forward.

Chris Basham 7

Put the Blades ahead with a firm header at the back post but then helped allow Plymouth a glimmer of hope by failing to deal with the ball after Lundstram had his pocket picked.

John Egan 7

A good display from the defender who ended the game with the armband after skipper Sharp went off. Useful to get some minutes in his legs after he picked up a fifth booking that rules him out of Wednesday's game at Manchester United - now Wilder must decide who will replace him

Ethan Ampadu 8

Signalled his attacking intentions from kick-off with a driving run forward and linked up well with Brewster before unleashing a shot which was saved well by defender Kelland Watts, with VAR somehow not giving a penalty. Did everything defensively very well too on an impressive afternoon

Enda Stevens 7

Linked up well with Fleck to set up chance for Sharp after driving at the Plymouth defence. Caused untold problems with his delivery from the left wing in the first half and forced a good save from Cooper after cutting inside onto his right foot

Ollie Norwood 8

Nice clipped ball over the top set Sharp free, but he was flagged offside. Repeated the trick in the second half with a lovely through-ball, and Sharp made no mistake. Booked for bringing down the advancing Camara - textbook taking one for the team. Was replaced with 20 minutes to go, probably with Wednesday night's game in mind, and did well here to put his disappointing game against Spurs behind him. Saw plenty of the ball, wasn't afraid to take risks and showed moments of quality when it mattered, albeit against League One opposition

A mixed bag at times, of driving, threatening runs at times and then a misplaced pass the next. Lung-busting drive down the left channel deserved more than Brewster losing his balance as he shaped to shoot. Lost the ball too easily in midfield just seconds before Plymouth pulled one back, not dissimilar to Norwood v Spurs - although he appeared to suggest he had been fouled.

John Fleck 7

Was heavily involved early on from the left of midfield, driving forward with the ball at his feet. Intelligent low cross across goal almost saw Brewster open the scoring, but the striker couldn't get enough on the ball. Almost added a rare goal to his all-round display, but Sharp was eventually flagged offside after squaring to him for a tap in.

Rhian Brewster 6.5

Looked to involve himself in the game from the start, dropping deep to get on the ball and doing his fair share of pressing and defensive work as well. Tested Cooper with a well-struck shot and then almost scored moments later, but couldn't get enough contact on Fleck's cross. Lost his composure, and his footing, when well-placed in the second half. Looked disconsolate as he was replaced by McGoldrick

Had a couple of early sights at goal - one from a pass from Norwood when he was flagged offside, and another after good play from Fleck and Stevens which saw defender get back and clear well. Lovely clipped cross for United's opening goal and then scored the second, rounding Cooper before slotting home. Almost killed the game when he squared to Fleck to score, only to be flagged offside from about three hours earlier by the linesman, and made way for Oli Burke\

George Baldock 6

Came on for Jayden Bogle with 20 minutes to go, probably to get some minutes back into his legs after his recent absence.

Kean Bryan 6

Replaced Ollie Norwood, with Ampadu switching to midfield.

Oli Burke 6

Came on for Sharp with just over 10 minutes of normal time remaining and forced a brilliant diving stop from Cooper with a well-struck, curling effort

David McGoldrick 6

United's top scorer this season replaced Rhian Brewster
