The Referee: David Coote, who averages 3.7 cautions per game this season, will take charge of the match while Chris Kavanagh is the VAR official at Stockley Park. Coote last oversaw a match involving United in June, when John Egan was controversially sent-off after receiving his second yellow card at Newcastle.

The Form Guide: United have yet to win this season, losing 12 and drawing two of their 14 outings so far. Last weekend’s draw with Brighton ended a run of eight straight defeats, although only two of those have come by more than one goal. Everton’s loss to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup this week was their first in four games. Their last away defeat came on November 1, when they were beaten by Newcastle.

The Last Time Out: Richarlison scored the only goal of the game early in the second half when Everton visited Bramall Lane last season, with Gylfi Sigurdsson providing the assist. The result ended United’s hopes of qualifying for Europe, only a year after being promoted from the Championship.

The History Lesson: United have won one and drawn one of their previous five meetings with Everton, triumphing 2-0 at Goodison Park last season. This will be the 135th time these two sides have faced each other in a competitive fixture, with United triumphing on 48 occasions compared to 54 for Everton.
