DANNY Wilson, the Sheffield United manager, wants to bring Matt Hill back to Bramall Lane.
Hill, who helped United reach the League One play-off final last season, is a free agent after leaving Blackpool. The full-back made 15 appearances for the Blades on loan and Wilson confirmed: “We’d like Matty to come back.
“He’s got offers so we’ll have to see but – yes – he’s someone we’d like to have here. Matty, as we all saw, is very solid and dependable. He can play in several positions and is experienced. If we are going to bring young lads through then having that sort of experience around them will be vital.”
Hill, 31, started his career at Bristol City before spells with Preston, Wolves, QPR and Barnsley.
He joined United in March, establishing himself as a regular. But, together with Daniel Bogdanovic and Stephen Husband, Hill was informed his services were no longer required at Blackpool during the build-up to May’s defeat by Huddersfield Town.
Wilson, who is also monitoring Hibernian’s David Wotherspoon, Wycombe Wanderers Stuart Beavon and Ben Parker, previously of Leeds, said: “Striker, centre-half and full-back are our priorities because these were areas where had little or no cover at times last term.”
Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic, Crystal Palace and Watford are also monitoring Leicester City youngster Jeffrey Schlupp, a United target.
