Speaking to the club’s official website, the Scotland international paid tribute to the Swans fans for their support last season, and said: “The fans have been absolutely unbelievable with me since I arrived here.

“It sends shivers down my spine when I hear the fans singing my name.”

He continued: “In one of the games they even sang ‘he’s one of our own’, which was quite funny. Without the fans there is no club.

“Professional footballers can forget how important they are, but that’s not the case here.”

The former Bradford City man went on to suggest he’ll be staying at the Liberty Stadium next season, and said: “For the love they show me, I try to repay them with goals.

“I’m really looking forward to next season, and hopefully I can score a lot more goals for them.”

McBurnie’s comments are interesting, given the recent speculation that he could follow his former manager Graham Potter to Brighton, or indeed make the switch to Bramall Lane.

After a sensational 2018/19 Championship campaign in which he netted 24 goals in all competitions, the 22-year-old looks more than capable of flourishing in the Premier League.

Yet, seemingly out of loyalty, he could opt to remain in the second tier for at least another season.

Sheffield United are certainly after a striker in the summer, and could turn to Brentford’s Neal Maupay or Middlesbrough’s Britt Assombalonga.

A move for McBurnie certainly isn’t dead in the water, but Brighton’s apparent interest, coupled with the player’s fresh comments, do make a potential Blades switch more uncertain.
