TIGERS will hold further talks with Elite League title winner Simon Stead this week.
But club co-boss David Hoggart is warning a return to Owlerton for the city rider is far from a formality with interest from other Premier League clubs.
Stead was made available on Sunday night by his parent club Swindon who have ruled him out of their plans for the defence of their top flight title.
A return to his hometown club appears to be the dream ticket for both parties but Hoggart warned: “We’ve had a chat but that’s as far as it’s gone. Simon takes great pride in his machinery and his professionalism and if he was to come into the Premier League he would take the league up to a level of professionalism which it has never seen before.
“We want to bring him back but we must strike a note of caution here because these are tough and uncertain financial times. We are looking to find a sponsor who can help both the club and rider make this deal happen because it can’t happen as things stand.”
