Sheffield FC targeting the top

Club head to current leaders Carlton Town knowing a win would take them top on goal difference and offer some indication of their strength this term.

Gavin Smith’s side will travel full of confidence having won the last four league games and five in all competitions following Tuesday emphatic 6-0 win against County Senior side High Green Villa where young starlet Ehsan Mohammed grabbed a hat-trick to add to his brace at Loughborough.

Carlton have won six of seven league games with the only defeat coming in a 3-1 reversal against Worksop Town earlier in the month.

Stocksbridge Park Steels are also on the road with a rearranged fixture at a struggling Newcastle Town side who are fourth from bottom and have just one win in six.

“They might not be doing well in the league at the moment but it’s always a tough place to go and get a result,” said Steels boss Chris Hilton.

Steels bounced back from last weekend’s home defeat to beat Staveley 1-0 in the Sheffield Senior Cup on Tuesday.

“Its always good to get a win but it came at a cost,” said Hilton. “We’ve lost Ross Goodwin with a dislocated shoulder and fractured ankle for around six weeks and Lewis Whitham will also miss the trip with a swollen ankle but at least we’ve got Steve McDonnell back.”

Stocksbridge will be out to extend their unbeaten away record to three games

Hallam play their first Saturday home Toolstation NCE League fixture when they welcome Harrogate Railway Athletic to Sandygate Road.

The Countrymen will be hoping it will help kick-start their season after what has been a mixed start with just one win and two draws from six league outings.

Harrogate, who were relegated from the Premier Division at the end of last season, have won two out of three away games as they bid to bounce back at the first attempt.

Handsworth make the trip to the East Coast where they take in Premier Division leaders and an in-form Bridlington Town.

The hosts will be looking to make it four league wins on the spin, while the Ambers will be aiming for a first away league win of the season.

However, the Queensgate Stadium has not been the best of hunting grounds for Handsworth in recent seasons having lost four and drawn one of their last five visits.
