Sheffield FC brought back down to earth by Carlton

It was a case of after the Lord Mayor’s parade for Sheffield FC as they crashed to a 3-0 home defeat against Carlton Town in the BetVictor East Division, coming just a few days after the stunning 2-1 League Cup victory at FC United of Manchester.

Sheffield suffered an early blow when they lost skipper Adam Chapman with injury, to be replaced my new signing James Reed from neighbours Hallam.

Carlton had by far the better of the first half taking a 2-0 lead into the break. Aaron Opoku opened the scoring on 18 minutes and Tyler Blake headed in the second just before the break .

Jordan Chapell brought a great save out of the Carlton keeper and Marc Newsham had penalty appeals waved away .

With eight minutes remaining Carlton wrapped up the points and extended Sheffield’s winless league run to 10 games with Tom Maddsion’s penalty.

Stocksbridge Park Steels climbed into the play-off places after extending their unbeaten to five games.

Steels got just the start they had wanted when Ross Goodwin put them in front on 10 minutes.

Scott Ruthven and Kurtis Turner both went close and the game remained in the balance until Stocksbridge finally got the second their play had deserved six minutes from time when Turner fired home.

In the Toolstation NCEL, Hallam came from behind to earn a point from a 1-1 draw at Division One promotion chasing Glasshoughton Welfare to take their unbeaten run to five games since the turn of the year.

The home side edged in front on 26 minutes when Ashley Bell beat James Leverton to the ball to head over the keeper.

Hallam levelled nine minutes after the break when Sam Smith’s penalty hit the post but Sam Fewkes tucked- in the rebound.

Glasshoughton were reduced to 10 men with 15 minutes remaining but Hallam couldn’t make the numerical advantage count.

It was another bad day Handsworth when they suffered a second 10-1 away defeat of the month.

Liversedge went second in the Premier Division with the big win while Jamie Austin netted the consolation five minutes from time.
