Sarah's Olympic joy

DONCASTER'S Sarah Stevenson (All Stars Taekwondo Club) booked her place in next year's Beijing Olympic Games after winning the silver medal in the +67kgs category in the World Taekwondo Olympic Qualification Event being held at Manchester's MEN arena.

Although still recovering from a broken hand Sarah sustained at the World Championships earlier in the summer, the former World Champion showed her very best form in reaching the final.

With qualification already secured - the top three athletes in each category achieve automatic qualification to the Olympics – the 24-year-old chose to avoid risking further injury and forfeited her final to take the silver medal.

Said Stevenson, who also contested the 2000 and 2004 Games:"I am delighted to have qualified for the Olympic Games. I had a tough opener against the reigning world champion , especially because I've lost to her in the past. So after I beat her I always felt pretty confident. "
