Town fans will have their own stories of how they came to support the club but Pedro de Castro’s connection with the Blues was established during a computer game.

The 23-year-old, from São Paulo, revealed how his love of Chesterfield started when he was playing FIFA a few years ago.

“I first found out about Chesterfield through FIFA 16,” he told the club’s official website.

“In the game you have the option to create a player and play as him throughout their career. Chesterfield actually chose me and I accepted! We were happy for a few seasons.

“After signing the contract with the club in-game, I started researching Chesterfield in real life. I wanted to know more about a club that I had never heard of.

“Since then, I have been happy with victories, sad with defeats and even sadder with relegation. That is part of it though, that is football.”

Pedro, who also supports São Paulo FC, lives more than 5,000 miles away but is keen to watch a game in person and would also like to work for the club.

He added: “If the future allows, I might move to Chesterfield to be part of the club’s media team. In a few years I hope to be an inspiration for future storytellers. Journalism is nothing more than that – telling stories.

“It would be magical to be able to watch a game in the stadium. It would be even better to meet the directors, players, coaching staff and have a look around the club.”
