The centre-half started Tuesday’s Derbyshire Senior Cup tie against Aston United but Wilson was unable to confirm whether or not he was okay to be thrown back into league action.

The Spireites are likely to be without right-back Paul McGinn however, the Scot at least a week away, and Laurence Maguire is out with an achilles problem.

Hird’s availability won’t be confirmed until the team sheets are written, says Wilson.

“We’re hoping the likes of Sam Hird will be available, we’re not sure but we’ll wait until the last moment,” he said. “One or two coming back is imminent and it’ll be a big boost for us.”

Today’s task is an enormous one for second-from-bottom Town, hosting third-placed Wanderers.

Wilson, obviously, rates them highly: “Bolton are possibly the most equipped team in the league for a chance at automatic promotion.

“They’ve got great experience throughout the squad, resilience, they can play football or scrap it when they need to.

“It’s going to be a massive test for us.

“We know we’ve got to play our A game, we’ve got to make sure we turn up and contest everything put in front of us.”
