Rugby men turn to cricket

DONCASTER Knights turned their attention to the round ball on Sunday in a charity cricket game against fellow rugby union side Doncaster Phoenix.

More than 250 people turned up at Doncaster Town's Bennetthorpe ground for the game between the Knights and Phoenix.

For the record, the Knights triumphed by 17 runs after scoring 179. Flanker Scott Gray took the man-of-the-match award after a quickfire 25 and some frighteningly-quick bowling.

Regular cricketer Simon Greenslade led Phoenix's reply of 162. He notched 80 in his side’s valiant effort, including a 24-run haul in one over from the unfortunate Andy Ellis.

The event raised money for the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice - Phoenix’s nominated charity for the coming season.
