Rovers aim to get back on track

Doncaster's Mark McCammon insists that Crewe 'cannot be underestimated' in this Sunday's League One showdown.

The Railwaymen have been defeated just once in five league matches, and that was against table-topping Leyton Orient.

After failing to win their opening two fixtures at home, Rovers are desperate for a win to reignite their faltering start to the campaign.

And McCammon reckons Crewe's style of play could fall invitingly into Rovers' hands.

The Barnet-born striker said: "Crewe are not going to sit-back and put men behind the ball – it will be an open game and there should be plenty of goals. They cannot be underestimated because they are renowned for being a good passing football team. But their style of play will suit us.

"Swansea are one of the best footballing teams in this division but we did well against them and got a great result. Northampton made it more difficult because they battled and put men behind the ball.

"Crewe like to get the ball down and play from the back just like ourselves so it should be an open game. We need to be careful defensively and make sure we take our chances at the other end.

"There should be a good atmosphere at home and hopefully we can nick a win. We are in the bottom-half of the table at the moment so we need to get a few wins under our belts."

Rover's beleaguered manager Sean O'Driscoll did receive one timely boost this week with the return from injury of forward James Price. He played and scored in Doncaster's 5-0 behind closed-doors practice match with Sunderland.

Despite accruing just four points out of a possible 15 in League One, McCammon remains magnanimous in his belief that the South Yorkshire club will challenge for honours come the end of the season.

"It was disappointing to lose at Northampton but that's the way it goes and we have to move on and put it behind us," the 29-year-old said.

"We can build and progress like Blackpool and Bristol City did last season. They had bad starts but got promotion. We look to things like that because it shows it's not impossible.

"We can still be up there but it's important we stick together.

"The team spirit is good so we just have to keep doing the right things on and off the pitch. If we stick to what we are best at and work as a team and a unit we will be fine.

"We had a slow start last year but we turned it around and went 12 games unbeaten, so it's not impossible."
