THIS is the site of Rotherham United’s new ground eight weeks into its ‘construction’ but things are starting to come clearer for those Millers followers keeping a close eye on matters just behind the newly-built council offices. In fact, the outline of where the pitch will be is visible after the necessary raising of the land by two metres - the site forming the first line of flood defence for the town centre. The steel has been ordered and the club say that it will start to be erected next month.
“Anyone driving past can see the progress that has been made but there is a still a lot of work to do,” said club chairman Tony Stewart. “We continue to be busy behind the scenes making sure that everything goes to plan.”
Further formal matters were concluded this week when Rotherham Council’s Planning Committee approved the stadium plans.
July 11 next year is the completion date.
